The Lower Missouri River Ecosystem Initiative (LMREI) began in 1994 at the U.S.
Geological Survey Columbia Enviromental Research Center in Columbia, Missouri.
The Goal is to partner with others to facilitate the transfer of Missouri River
management agencies. LMREI want to create an information clearinghouse to serve
as an access point for data and information.

In 1998, LMREI was ended. Through additional partners, LMREI expanded its focus
and soon became the Missouri River InfoLINK.
