update Definition (The Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS)  is a archive,
reproduction, and distribution facility for both source and derived remotely
sensed, cartographic, and thematic earth science data pertaining to the land
surface of the Earth. The Data Center is administered by the U.S.Department of
the Interior, Geological Survey, National Mapping Division, and serves a range
of users consisting primarily of persons involved in cartographic, resource
management, and earth science activities. Users represent U.S. and other
national government agencies, the academic research community, state and local
governments, and the private sector.
