To ensure a prosperous and sustainable agriculture industry through the development of rural people and resources for the benefit of all Nova Scotians.       
      
The Agriculture Services Branch is comprised of the following
divisions and functions:
      
 1. Resource Stewardship
      
The Resource Stewardship division encourages the best available management of agricultural resources to ensure sustainable and sound environmental farm practices for the betterment of Nova Scotians. It is divided into four sections:
      
      * environmental management
      * land protection
      * 4-H and Rural Organizations, and,
      * field services.
      
2. Programs and Risk Management
      
The Programs and Risk Management division is responsible for the
delivery of flexible risk management and financial development
programs to enhance the economic viability and sustainability of
agri-business, as well as the development of the department's business
plan.  This is addressed through:
      
      * farm industry/development
      * agricultural research funding, and,
      * federal / provincial stakeholder interactions.
      
3. Legislated Organizations The following Legislated Organizations
    have ties to the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries:
      
      * Crop and Livestock Insurance Commission, and,
      * Natural Products Marketing Council.
      
4. Regulation and Industry Relations
      
The Regulation and Industry Relations division adapts and develops regulatory programs and related methods to prevent or minimize introduction and spread of designated diseases and pests of concern to agriculture. It delivers enforcement of related regulations and conducts regular assessments to determine risk invasion of agricultural pests.  The Regulation and Industry Relations division provides liaison with a broad section of the agricultural industry and other government agencies and may, at times, involve settlement of disputes and misunderst andings."""@en ;
