skos:definition """The Centre for Ecology and Hydrology (CEH) is a component of the
Natural Environment Research Council (NERC). On 1st April 2000,
the four Institutes that formed CEH merged: the Institute of
Hydrology (IH) became the CEH Wallingford site, specializing in
hydrology. From its base at Crowmarsh Gifford on the Thames near
Wallingford, Oxfordshire, about 150 scientists investigate the
effects of land-use, climate, topography and geology on the
volume and character of surface water resources.

Research at the CEH Wallingford site is a combination of
fundamental science, funded by NERC, and applied science to
solve practical problems for government departments,
international agencies and independent organizations. Research
extends from water and energy fluxes to processes such as
evaporation, interception and infiltration and to mathematical
modeling of the hydrological cycle and chemical processes above
and below ground. A Joint Centre for Hydro-Meteorological
Research has been set up in partnership with The Met Office.
